23. The Atlantic Forest

A close cousin to the Amazon, the Atlantic Forest is a rainforest located in South America. While it once reached into Paraguay, Brazil and Argentina in a 330 million acre tract, today deforestation has diminished the rainforest to only 7 percent of its original size. One highlight of the forest is Iguazu Falls, the world’s largest collection of waterfalls, featuring 950 species of birds and 20,000 plant species.
